Raku Bear

This handbuilt ceramic sculpture of a black bear explores a balance between realism and whimsy. Its iridescent coat, achieved through a traditional outdoor Raku firing, and softened features inspired by the classic form of teddy bears, reflect my deep admiration for local wildlife. Special attention has been given to the face, blending reflective, patina, and matte finishes to enhance an expression sculpted to suggest the bear’s gentle, intelligence side. By blending the brilliance of nature’s design with the comforting, nostalgic qualities of childhood toys, I aim to capture the bear as an individual, imbued with a hint of life and personality.
